Over 150 Suspected Bandits Drown In Sokoto Boat Mishap

No fewer than 150 suspected bandits have reportedly died after a boat conveying them capsized in the Sabon Gida area of Sokoto State on Saturday evening.

Sources in the area said the wooden vessel was transporting a large number of armed men when it overturned while attempting to cross a river, throwing all occupants into the water.

Eyewitnesses said most of those on board were unable to swim, leading to heavy casualties.
“Many of them could not swim, and that worsened the situation,” a local source said.

Early reports indicated that none of the occupants survived the incident, although the exact number of casualties has yet to be independently verified.

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies in Sokoto had not issued any official statement on the incident or confirmed the reported death toll.

The development has further heightened security concerns in the region, where armed groups have continued to operate across several rural communities.
