Oyo Authorities Impound Six Cows in Ibadan Over Open Grazing Violations

The Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA) has stepped up its enforcement campaign against open grazing, impounding six cows found roaming across parts of Ibadan in breach of the state’s livestock control regulations.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Chairperson of the Authority, retired Justice Aderonke Aderemi, who said the animals were seized during routine monitoring operations conducted in Old Ife Road, Alakia and Elebu Idi Ahun areas of Ido Local Government Area.

According to the statement, five of the cows were discovered grazing openly within the affected communities, contrary to provisions of Oyo State’s laws regulating livestock movement and management. The animals were subsequently taken into custody by enforcement officials.

In a separate operation carried out on the same day, the Authority responded to reports of cattle wandering along the busy Mokola highway in Ibadan, raising concerns over public safety.

Officials who arrived at the scene reportedly found three cows roaming on the roadway, creating potential hazards for motorists and pedestrians. One of the animals was successfully impounded, while the remaining two escaped before they could be apprehended.

OYRLEA said the enforcement actions form part of ongoing efforts by the state government to curb open grazing, promote responsible livestock management and prevent incidents that could endanger lives or disrupt peaceful coexistence within communities.

The Authority reiterated its commitment to safeguarding residents, maintaining environmental order and ensuring strict compliance with Oyo State laws.
