Police Arrest 10 Suspected Human Parts Merchants, Recover Heart, Skull in Oyo

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested 10 suspected members of a syndicate allegedly involved in the trafficking of human parts and recovered suspected human body parts and charms from their hideouts.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Saturday in Ibadan.

According to Ayanlade, the suspects were arrested at separate locations in Iseyin and Saki following months of intelligence gathering and discreet surveillance by operatives of the command’s monitoring unit.

He said searches conducted at the suspects’ hideouts led to the recovery of several suspected human parts.

The recovered items reportedly included one suspected human heart, human flesh, pieces of human skull and assorted charms.

Ayanlade said the exhibits had been secured for forensic examination as investigations continued.

He added that the suspects were assisting detectives in establishing the source, procurement and intended purpose of the recovered items, while efforts were ongoing to identify and apprehend other suspected members of the syndicate.

The Police Commissioner in Oyo State, Mr Abimbola Olugbenga, commended the operatives for what he described as a painstaking, intelligence-led operation.

Olugbenga also assured residents that the command would remain committed to tackling criminal activities and protecting the sanctity of human life.
