Police Arrest Man After Allegedly Throwing Two Children From Three-Storey Building in Abia

Police have arrested a man accused of throwing his two children from a three-storey building in Umuobe, near Barracks Junction along Opobo Road in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State.

The suspect was also alleged to have attempted to throw his wife from the building before he fell to the ground during the incident, which left residents in shock and triggered panic across the neighbourhood.

Eyewitnesses told Magic FM Aba that the disturbing incident unfolded on Friday evening, with the man allegedly throwing the two children from an upper floor of the building before attempting to attack his wife.

According to residents, the suspect was later found lying unconscious but still breathing in front of the building with a head injury believed to have been sustained during the fall.

The two children were immediately rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. Magic FM Aba subsequently confirmed that both children survived the fall, although details about the extent of their injuries were not immediately available.

Concerned residents alerted the authorities, prompting operatives of the Nigeria Police Force to arrive at the scene at about 6:22 p.m. to secure the area and begin preliminary investigations.

Witnesses said the suspect resisted arrest when officers attempted to take him into custody. However, after several minutes, he was subdued and taken away by the police at about 6:32 p.m.

The police have commenced an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and establish what led to the alleged attack.

The condition of the suspect and his wife was not immediately disclosed, while authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the case.
