Police Intercept Arms Shipment in Katsina, Arrest Suspected Gun-Runners

The Katsina State Police Command has intercepted a large cache of weapons and arrested two suspected gun-runners transporting the arms from Jigawa State to Safana Local Government Area in Katsina.

According to Nasir Mu’azu, Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, the arrest took place around 4:35 a.m. when officers on patrol from the Ingawa Division stopped a blue Volkswagen Golf (Registration: RSH 528 BY ABJ) along the Ingawa–Karkarku road.

The suspects, Abdulsalam Muhammad (25) and Aminu Mamman (23), both from Baure village in Safana LGA, were found with a deadly arsenal that included:
One General Purpose Machine G¥n (GPMG) with breach number Z8826,
1,063 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm AK-47 ammunition, and
232 rounds of 7.62 x 69mm PKT ammunition.

Investigations revealed the weapons originated from Hadejia in Jigawa and were destined for Safana. Authorities say the interception marks a major breakthrough in efforts to disrupt arms supply chains fueling criminal activities in the state.

The state government commended the police for their vigilance and pledged continued support to security agencies in their fight against banditry and related crimes.
