Popular Anambra comedian and media personality, Isaac Nwosu, popularly known as Aiza Nwosu, has reportedly been shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Awka, Anambra State.
Nwosu was reportedly attacked on SM Okeke Street on Sunday while driving his Hilux truck, which was fitted with loudspeakers used for making public announcements and playing music around the city.
Sources said the attackers allegedly monitored Nwosu and trailed him from his residence in a tinted Toyota Corolla before opening fire on him.
He reportedly died inside his vehicle after sustaining gunshot wounds, while music continued to play from the truck’s sound system. The vehicle was said to have eventually veered off the road and ended up in a ditch.
Nwosu was a familiar face in Awka, where he was known for driving around the city in his truck, making announcements and entertaining residents with music through the loudspeakers.
His reported killing came amid a series of violent incidents in Awka on Sunday, with three people allegedly killed and several others injured.
Earlier in the day, two men were reportedly shot dead in the Amaenyi area. The incident allegedly caused panic and a stampede, leaving several people injured.
There were also conflicting claims surrounding the possible motive for Nwosu’s killing. While some residents said he had no known links to cult activities, others alleged that his son was associated with the Vikings confraternity.
Awka has witnessed several cult-related clashes in the past, some of which have resulted in deaths and injuries.
However, the circumstances surrounding Nwosu’s killing remain unclear.
As of the time of filing this report, the Anambra State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
