R&B singer R. Kelly was reportedly hospitalised last week following an alleged drug overdose while serving a 30-year sentence for sex trafficking and racketeering.

According to a legal filing submitted on Tuesday, June 17, by Kelly’s attorney Beau B. Brindley, the 58-year-old was administered an “overdose quantity” of medication by staff at the Federal Correctional Institute in Butner, North Carolina. The medication allegedly exceeded his prescribed dosages for anxiety and sleep issues.

TMZ reports that the incident occurred on June 12 while Kelly, whose real name is Robert Sylvester Kelly, was in solitary confinement.

He reportedly began seeing “black spots in his vision” before losing consciousness and rushed to the hospital on June 13.

Kelly, once a Grammy-winning star, was convicted in 2021 on multiple federal charges involving the expl+itation of underage girls and young women. His legal team is now raising concerns over the conditions of his incarceration and the handling of his medical care.
