Renewed Hope Is a Scam — Ex-minister Aregbesola Slam Tinubu’s Government

Former Minister of Interior and National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has launched a scathing critique of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, describing its “Renewed Hope” agenda as a “scam” and calling for the president’s resignation.

Aregbesola made the remarks while addressing delegates at the ADC National Convention in Abuja, where he accused the current government of failing to deliver on key campaign promises.

According to him, nearly three years into the administration, Nigerians are yet to see tangible results from the much-publicised “Renewed Hope” programme.

“When exactly will this hope come into fruition? The answer is simple — it is a scam,” Aregbesola declared, warning that continued reliance on rhetoric without results could further erode public trust.

The former Osun State governor criticised the government’s performance in critical sectors, particularly electricity, the economy, and citizens’ welfare. He noted that power supply remains erratic, with many communities reportedly receiving only a few hours of electricity daily, while others experience prolonged blackouts.

He argued that based on earlier promises made by the administration, failure to resolve the power crisis should have prompted accountability at the highest level.

Aregbesola also faulted the government’s handling of the economy, highlighting the sharp depreciation of the naira and rising fuel prices. He said the current realities have significantly increased the cost of living, making transportation and basic survival difficult for many Nigerians.

On insecurity, the ADC chieftain accused the government of failing to adequately protect lives and property, adding that the worsening situation reflects a lack of urgency and empathy.

He further expressed concern over the state of education, claiming that the number of out-of-school children has continued to rise, alongside increasing levels of poverty nationwide.

Positioning the ADC as a viable alternative, Aregbesola called on Nigerians to support the party’s “rescue mission,” urging citizens to take a stand against what he described as mismanagement and political deception.

“The country is drifting, and we cannot allow this continued slide into hopelessness,” he said, calling for collective action to redirect Nigeria’s future.
