Russia Demands Answers From US Over Alleged Role In Ukraine Attacks

Russia has reportedly sent an official inquiry to the United States seeking information about Washington’s alleged involvement in Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory, amid a fresh escalation in long-range strikes between Moscow and Kyiv.

The move comes as Ukraine has intensified attacks against targets inside Russia, including energy infrastructure and other strategic facilities. Recent Ukrainian drone strikes have targeted Russian oil and petrochemical facilities, with one attack hitting the Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat refinery in Bashkortostan, about 1,300 kilometres from Ukraine, according to reports.

Moscow’s request to Washington raises fresh questions about the extent of US involvement in Ukraine’s military operations and the increasingly direct nature of the confrontation between Russia and the Western-backed Ukrainian government.

Russian authorities have repeatedly accused Western countries of providing Ukraine with intelligence, weapons and other military assistance that enable strikes against Russian targets.

The latest development comes amid growing pressure on Russia’s energy infrastructure. Ukrainian forces have increasingly targeted oil refineries and other facilities considered important to Russia’s war effort, while Kyiv has maintained that such operations are intended to reduce Moscow’s ability to finance and sustain its military campaign.

Russia’s inquiry is expected to focus attention on whether US intelligence, satellite information, weapons systems or other forms of assistance have contributed to Ukrainian attacks inside Russian territory.

The question is particularly sensitive because Washington has been involved in efforts to influence the course of the conflict while simultaneously supporting Ukraine militarily.

Recent reports have indicated that the United States has at times sought to restrain Ukrainian operations that could affect American interests.

Ukraine reportedly halted attacks on oil tankers using Russia’s Black Sea port of Novorossiysk after a request from US Vice-President JD Vance, with Washington concerned that the strikes were disrupting global oil markets and affecting the Caspian Pipeline Consortium.

The development illustrates the complicated relationship between Washington’s support for Kyiv and its efforts to prevent the war from escalating into a broader confrontation.
