Sowore Rejects Opposition Summit, Calls Coalition ‘Repackaging of Failed Leaders

Former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore, has disclosed that he turned down an invitation to attend the recent National Opposition Summit held in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The summit, which brought together leaders of several opposition parties, reportedly focused on forming a united front ahead of the 2027 general elections, including plans to present a single presidential candidate.

Parties involved include the African Democratic Congress, a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, and the New Nigeria People’s Party.

Reacting via social media, Sowore criticized the gathering, describing it as an attempt by familiar political figures to reinvent themselves despite what he characterised as past governance failures.

He argued that Nigerians should not expect meaningful change from politicians he accused of presiding over years of stagnation, corruption, and systemic decline.

According to him, the country requires a fundamentally new direction rather than what he termed a recycling of old leadership.

Sowore further stated that the AAC would not participate in any coalition aimed at repackaging established political actors.

He maintained that his party remains committed to building a people-driven alternative anchored on integrity, accountability, and genuine transformation.

Emphasising the need for structural change, the activist-turned-politician added that Nigeria’s challenges cannot be solved through alliances of existing power blocs but require a decisive break from entrenched political systems.
