Take a Second Wife” — Prophet Akinbo Advises Men Whose Wives Deny Them Intimacy

Prophet Akinbo Shalom Kelvin has sparked reactions after advising married men whose wives continually deny them intimacy to consider taking a second wife rather than secretly committing adultery.

The cleric made the remarks during a sermon while discussing intimacy and communication in marriage.

Akinbo criticised the popular advice that husbands should spend the entire day preparing their wives emotionally before expecting intimacy at night.

“I heard a pastor say, ‘If you want sex, if you want intimacy with your wife at night, start preparing your wife from the morning.’ You see, these are the kinds of things some churches teach, because some pastors are simply confused about marriage. They’re confused about intimacy in marriage,” he said.

He questioned why a married man should have to continually beg or negotiate for intimacy with his wife, arguing that expectations within marriage could differ from those during courtship.

According to him, a healthy marriage should be built on mutual understanding, communication, affection and responsibility from both partners.

However, Akinbo cautioned men against cheating secretly, advising them to discuss the issue with their wives and seek counselling where necessary.

“If your wife continually denies you, don’t secretly cheat. Talk to her, find out what’s wrong, seek counselling where necessary,” he said.

The prophet added that if the situation persisted, couples could openly discuss the possibility of polygamy where the husband believed it was permitted by his religious convictions.

“But if the problem continues, and you genuinely believe scripture permits it, then discuss the possibility of taking a second wife openly, rather than destroying marriage through adultery,” he said.

Akinbo further argued that there was no biblical prohibition against a man taking a second wife, challenging those who hold a contrary view to produce a scripture supporting their position.

“There is no scripture that says that you cannot take a second wife. Show me one scripture,” he declared.

His comments have since generated debate, with some questioning the appropriateness of encouraging polygamy as a solution to marital intimacy problems, while others focused on his call for communication and counselling rather than secret infidelity.
