Three Dies Of Cholera In Benue State

The Benue State Epidemiologist, Dr. Henry Ijabo, has confirmed that three people have died from a cholera outbreak in the state over the past two weeks.

It was gathered that for over 10 years, Benue State, particularly communities in the Benue South Senatorial District, have been consistently plagued by cholera outbreaks, affecting numerous victims.

Speaking to newsmen on Tuesday, Dr. Ijabo disclosed that out of the 13 reported cases of cholera, 10 patients are currently under medical observation.

He called on Benue residents to cease open defecation, while emphasising that there was currently no vaccine available for the disease since it is not part of routine immunisation programmes.

He stated that the disease was most widespread in the Agatu, Ado, and Otukpo local government areas within the Benue South senatorial zone.

He, however, reiterated the importance of maintaining rigorous hygiene standards in the community and its surroundings.
