VP Shettima Is In Full Support Of President Tinubu’s Action In Rivers State– Presidency

The Presidency has said that Vice-President Kashim Shettima’s remarks at a book launch in Abuja on Thursday, July 10, are not in any way a criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s actions on the declaration of State of Emergency in Rivers.

Recall that while speaking at the book launch, Shettima had recounted how former Attorney General of the Federation, Mohammed Adoke and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, had the courage to tell former President Goodluck Jonathan not to remove him from office as Governor of Borno state because he lacks the constitutional power to do so. Shettima said in the wake of the Chibok girls abduction and the heightened insecurity in Borno state, Jonathan had thought of making an executive order for his removal.

However, Tambuwal and Adoke stood against it saying Jonathan lacks the power to remove n elected councillor let alone a Governor from office.

Some Nigerians had thought that Shettima was indirectly speaking against the suspension of Rivers state governor, Sim Fubara, by his boss President Tinubu.

However at a press briefing in Abuja, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media, Office of the Vice President, Stanley Nkwocha, said the reports is a “gross misrepresentation.” He stated that his principal, Kashim Shettima, is in full support of President Tinubu’s action on the Rivers state matters.
