Why I Am Contesting For Second Term – Alex Otti

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has announced his intention to seek a second term in office, stating that there is still “unfinished work” to complete in his administration.

He made the declaration on Monday at his country home in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South LGA, during a massive 10,000-man solidarity march organized by stakeholders from the area, led by Labour Party House of Assembly candidate in the 2023 elections, Mr. Dannie Ubani.

Governor Otti emphasized that had his administration fully accomplished its mission, there would be no reason to seek re-election. He stressed that significant developmental work remains, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, social services, and economic transformation.

While acknowledging the role of opposition in a democratic society, Otti criticized some political opponents for engaging in what he called a “politics of witchcraft,” describing attempts to deny his administration’s achievements as culturally unacceptable within Igbo society.

“The opposition, which constitutes less than five percent of the state, should focus on constructive criticism rather than attempting to negate visible achievements such as road projects and public infrastructure,” Otti said.

The Governor also called on eligible citizens who have yet to register for the ongoing voters’ registration exercise to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), stressing that political engagement without voter registration is ineffective. He further encouraged members of the Labour Party to complete their party e-registration and secure membership cards to participate in primaries and support aspirants of their choice.

Reflecting on his political journey, Otti recounted his experiences in the 2015 governorship election, where he claimed victory was initially denied, and his eventual 2023 election win after facing significant challenges. He attributed his success to divine providence, stating, “Power ultimately comes from God, and divine timing is always best.”

The event, organized by Mr. Ubani, aimed to show solidarity with the Governor and highlight his leadership accomplishments. Other speakers, including Dr. Chike Nwannunu, Chief Israel Nwaogwugwu, and Hon. Barr. Remijus Nji, praised Otti’s administration, noting his contributions to road infrastructure, transport terminals, and other visible development projects.

Dr. Nwannunu described Otti’s emergence as divinely orchestrated and said the Governor’s achievements would remain a lasting legacy, visible to all residents even after his tenure.

The Governor expressed gratitude to the people for their continued support and commended Mr. Ubani for organizing the rally.

This announcement sets the stage for Governor Otti’s bid for re-election ahead of the 2027 general elections, positioning him as a key contender in Abia State politics.
