Why I Won’t Be Having Children – Comedian Akuku Danger

Kenyan comedian Akuku Danger has opened up on why he has chosen not to have children, citing his lifelong battle with sickle cell anemia.

In a recent interview, the comedian, whose real name is Mannerson Ochieng, explained that although he is capable of fathering children, he has deliberately decided against it to avoid passing the genetic condition to the next generation.

“I do not have kids. It is not because I can’t, but I choose to live a life where I have to be keen on what happens around me. I would not want to bring another child into this world with the same condition. It is my job to ensure sickle cell dies with me,” he said.

Akuku revealed that he and his partner have undergone genetic screening to confirm their status, stressing that any decision to have children must involve medical checks to prevent the risk of both parents being carriers.

He added: “If it is a must to procreate, we have to do screening with the spouse to know if they are carriers.”

The comedian, who has openly shared his health struggles in the past, said the decision was both emotional and ethical, as he would not want any child to endure the same pain and challenges that come with sickle cell anemia.

His revelation has sparked widespread reactions online, with many praising his courage and sense of responsibility in making such a difficult personal choice.
