Afrobeats artiste, Wisdom Odigie Afelomo, professionally known as Wizzy Pro Max, has opened up about his journey in the Nigerian music industry, the inspiration behind his latest single, ‘Eleda Mi’, and his plans for the next phase of his career.

The Edo State-born artiste, who describes himself as a storyteller through music, said his journey so far has been shaped by perseverance, challenges and his determination to keep pushing despite the difficulties that come with pursuing a career in music.

His latest single, ‘Eleda Mi’, featuring Gold Vibe and produced by Starkid, draws heavily from his personal experiences and reflects his belief in faith, perseverance and divine grace.

According to Wizzy Pro Max, the song was born out of moments in his life when he could have given up but instead chose to keep moving.

“My journey inspired me. I’ve experienced different challenges and moments that could have made me give up, but I kept reminding myself that I have to keep pushing and praying for grace,” he said.

The artiste explained that ‘Eleda Mi’ is more personal than some of his previous releases because it allows listeners to connect with the experiences that have shaped him.

“It’s not just about making music; it’s about sharing a part of my story,” he added.

The song reportedly took about six months to complete, with Wizzy Pro Max revealing that the process involved several stages of writing, recording and making adjustments before he was satisfied with the final result.

For him, the most important thing is the message behind the music.

He wants listeners, particularly those going through difficult moments, to understand that their present circumstances do not necessarily determine their future.

“I want listeners to understand that they should never give up on themselves or their dreams. Life can be difficult, but you have to keep pushing, keep believing, and keep praying for grace,” he said.

Wizzy Pro Max on his sound

Speaking about his creative process, the artiste said his songwriting often begins with an emotion, personal experience or idea he wants to express.

He said he allows the feeling to guide the writing before developing the lyrics and melody around it.

Wizzy Pro Max also believes his sound has become more intentional over the years, as he continues to combine the melodies he naturally connects with with his personal experiences.

“I’m still evolving, and I don’t want to put myself in one box,” he said.

On the Nigerian music industry, the rising artiste described his experience as one of learning, growth, challenges and perseverance.

While he acknowledged that breaking through can be difficult for upcoming artistes, he identified exposure and opportunities as some of the major challenges facing emerging talents.

According to him, there are many talented musicians in Nigeria, but talent alone does not always guarantee success.

He noted that consistency, resources, a strong team and the opportunity to be discovered can make a significant difference in an artiste’s career.

‘Social media is both a blessing and a challenge’

Wizzy Pro Max also shared his thoughts on the role of social media in the careers of emerging musicians.

He said social media has made it easier for upcoming artistes to reach audiences around the world without necessarily having the backing of a major record label.

However, he noted that the sheer volume of content online also makes it difficult for artistes to stand out.

“You have to constantly create, connect with your audience, and still make music that has lasting value,” he said.

The artiste said the reaction to ‘Eleda Mi’ has so far been encouraging, particularly because listeners have connected with the message of the song.

He disclosed that some of the feedback that means the most to him comes from listeners who tell him that his lyrics speak directly to what they are experiencing.

For Wizzy Pro Max, such moments reinforce his belief that music goes beyond entertainment..

‘Different Shades’ EP on the way

Looking ahead, the artiste revealed that he is preparing to release a three-track EP titled ‘Different Shades’.

According to him, the project will showcase different sides of his personality and artistry as he enters another phase of his career.

He also named Wizkid, Fola and Simi among the Nigerian artistes he would love to collaborate with in the future.

Wizzy Pro Max said he admires what the artistes bring to music and hopes to work with them someday.

Beyond collaborations, he also has ambitions of performing across Nigeria and eventually taking his music to international audiences.

Interestingly, music was not always his only career plan.

The artiste disclosed that he has a background in Electrical Engineering and would probably have pursued a career in the field if he had not chosen music.

Outside the studio, Wizzy Pro Max said he enjoys football, wrestling, boxing and spending time with people close to him.

He also described himself as a reflective person who often thinks deeply about his experiences and the world around him, with many of those thoughts eventually finding their way into his music.

As he looks ahead, Wizzy Pro Max says fans should expect more music, growth and a different side of his artistry.

For him, ‘Eleda Mi’ is not simply another Afrobeats release but a message for anyone who has ever faced difficult times and needed the strength to keep going.

“If you’ve ever had to pray for grace and believe that better days are ahead, I believe you’ll find something in this song,” he said.
