The Vice President of Nigeria, Kashim Shettima, has congratulated Super Eagles players despite the team’s failure to win the title at the just concluded 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, stating that the names of the players will be written in gold.

Shettima, who watched the game live at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium, Ebimpe, Abidjan, said the players will be rewarded for their gallant effort in the game.

In the video shared on Shettima’s Facebook page on Monday, he said, “Indeed there is a cause for celebration because we are the second-best footballing nation in Africa.”

He wrote, “Yesterday after the AFCON final match, I met with the Super Eagles players and officials to congratulate and commend their efforts for an impressive performance at the just concluded Africa Cup of Nations

“I spoke with the players and officials in the dressing room shortly after the match, and I told them that regardless of the outcome, the nation was proud of their efforts and contributions.

“The team has no cause to be sad, they have every cause to celebrate. The nation is proud of them.”

Host country, Ivory Coast, came from behind to beat Nigeria 2-1 at the final of the biennial competition concluded inside the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan, the capital of Ivory Coast.
