The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has said he believes President Bola Tinubu is divinely guided, describing the President as being under God’s “mighty hands”.
Umahi made the remarks on Thursday during the commissioning of the Eke Obinagu–Emene flyover, a project designed to ease traffic congestion in the area ahead of the Easter celebrations.
Speaking at the event, the minister sought to reassure residents of the South-East that the region is no longer sidelined in national affairs. He pointed to what he described as increased representation in the current administration, citing his own position and the appointment of two service chiefs from the region as evidence of inclusion.
“God has spoken to me that His mighty hands are upon President Bola Tinubu,” Umahi said. “Our people must be strategic. The marginalisation we have often spoken about is now behind us. For the first time, we are part of the leadership.”
While acknowledging the long-standing aspiration of the South-East to produce a president, Umahi urged political leaders in the region to rally behind the current administration in the meantime. He also claimed that governors from the zone are supportive of President Tinubu’s leadership.
In a direct appeal, the minister called on South-East leaders to be more vocal in their support and to actively engage their communities.
“I want to appeal to our leaders to be bold in persuading our people on the need to support Mr President,” he said. “If you are a leader in the South-East and you are not open in your support, then you are not truly representing our collective interest.”
