Man Says Repentant Boko Haram Insurgents Receives N3m, ₦50,000 As Monthly Salary

A man identified as Enoch Yohanna has alleged that repentant members of Boko Haram are being rewarded with millions of naira and monthly stipends after undergoing rehabilitation by the Federal Government.

Yohanna, whose father was reportedly killed by the insurgents, made the claims in a viral video currently circulating on social media.

Speaking at a public gathering, the Borno indigene alleged that former Boko Haram fighters who surrender are subjected to a screening process where their past crimes are assessed through questionnaires before they are allegedly rewarded financially.

According to him, each rehabilitated insurgent receives a ₦3 million payoff and is subsequently placed on a monthly salary of ₦50,000.

The claims have sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing concern and demanding clarification from authorities over the country’s de-radicalisation and reintegration programme for former insurgents.

However, the Nigerian government and military authorities have consistently denied claims that ex-Boko Haram members are being paid salaries or handed millions of naira after rehabilitation.

Security agencies maintain that repentant insurgents who voluntarily surrender are processed under Operation Safe Corridor, a federal initiative established to de-radicalise, rehabilitate and reintegrate former fighters into society.

Officials insist that participants in the programme are only provided with limited stipends, vocational training and starter packs aimed at helping them rebuild their lives and discourage a return to violence.

Authorities have repeatedly defended the programme as part of broader efforts to end insurgency in Nigeria’s North-East region and encourage more fighters to surrender.

The controversy surrounding the allegations has continued to generate debate on social media platforms, particularly among victims of insurgent attacks and residents of affected communities in Borno State and other parts of the North-East.
