Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has said his entry into politics was driven by a desire to serve the nation, not for personal enrichment.
Speaking during a grassroots mobilisation tour in Sokoto State on Saturday, he said it had become necessary for patriotic Nigerians to rise and rescue the country from what he described as poor governance and failed leadership under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
El-Rufai added that his desire to serve the country as a senior citizen by taking n3cessary actions fueled his passion for politics.
He said, “I didn’t enter politics to enrich myself but to serve,” And when a government ceases to serve the people, it is my duty as a senior citizen to not only speak out but take action to reverse the situation.”
El-Rufai, who is spearheading efforts to build an opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 elections, said the ruling party no longer represents the values it once stood for.
He accused the APC of becoming “incompetent and clannish,” warning that giving the party another term would endanger the country’s unity and future.
The former governor noted that the coalition would intensify efforts to mobilise Nigerians across all regions, with the aim of voting out the APC in 2027 and replacing it with credible, visionary leadership.
He added, “If we allow this APC government another term, what remains of Nigeria’s social fabric may be destroyed. This is the fight of our lives.”
