Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has called on Nigerian youths to move beyond anger and focus on constructive solutions to the country’s challenges.
Speaking on his experiences interacting with young people online, El-Rufai revealed that he often faces criticism from youths on social media, especially on Facebook.
“On Facebook, I get ab¥sed all the time by young people who say ‘what did you do when you were in office? Is it today you discovered that Nigeria has gone bad?’ and so on and so forth,” El-Rufai revealed.
The former governor acknowledged that many young Nigerians are frustrated by the country’s economic and social challenges, noting that their anger is understandable. However, he stressed that lasting change can only come through innovation, leadership, and practical problem-solving.
“You are an angry generation and maybe you have the right to be. But, anger doesn’t solve the problem, it is constructive thinking and solutions that will solve the problem because you can be as angry with me as you like, but in 20 years I will be d+ad. So you have to find someone to be angry about and then you will be 40something and then your children will be angry at you if you don’t solve the problem,” he said.
El-Rufai urged youths to take responsibility for Nigeria’s future by engaging in meaningful actions rather than focusing solely on blame. According to him, the current generation must rise to the task of building sustainable systems that will benefit both themselves and future generations.
